I have many years experience caring for others. My past professional background is nursing including; general, district and occupational health. I ran a clinic in Africa caring for my patients’ physical and emotional well being. This experience reinforced my belief that being able to talk and really being listened too can help. I decided then to train as a therapist.
I have a broad experience of client issues and currently work as a counsellor in a GP Surgery and in private practice. Other experience includes; working with army families, coordinating a charity that cares for carers and working as a volunteer with victims of crime.
My approach is integrative, including, humanistic, psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy skills. I work in a person centred way
I am an accredited member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work to BACP’s ethical framework. I am also registered with UKRCP. I have my own indemnity insurance and have regular supervision.
My qualifications are:
- Diploma ( Higher National, level five) in Integrative Counselling
- Certificate in Bereavement Counselling
- Certificate in Counselling Skills
- Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling
- Registered General Nurse
Continuous personal development
I regularly attend meetings and seminars which help to broaden my skills. These include seminars in working creatively with clients, childhood abuse issues, working with couples and solution focussed counselling. In order to know what it feels like to have counselling I chose to have my own therapy and feel that I learned a lot about myself which has helped me in my practice.
My work
I work with individuals over 18. I do face to face, time limited and long term work. I believe the mind and body to be connected and that a more relaxed state of mind can lead to feeling physically healthier. |
